Labs have always been one of Americas's top breeds of dogs! Labs have proven themselves to be extra great dogs as service dogs, hunting dogs, companions, and also extremily smart and great with kids! However, they are too large for many of today's families, and living situations. They also are known to be high shedders.
At Dakota Winds, we are breeding a variety of types of Lab crosses, to produce a smaller Lab. Mini Labs, 1st & 2nd generation Labbes, Comfort Labs, Comfort Labbes, and Toy Labbes. Our focus is to breed very healthy, great temperaments, smaller Lab looking dogs! This page is to explain the differences! Pictures on this page are not of available puppies or dogs. Comfort Labs: A Comfort Lab is a cross between a Lab and a Comfort Golden. So, they are 1/2 Lab, 1/4th Golden Retriever, and 1/4th Cocker Spaniel. They mature mostly from 17 to 19 inches tall at the shoulder, and weigh from 40 to 55 pounds. They are very gentle, loving dogs, that love to fetch, love water, and can be trained for hunting. They are extremily easy to train, and a lot of fun! Our Comfort Labs come in chocolate, cream, gold, and fox red colors.
Perfect choice for anyone wanting a medium sized dog, that is smaller then most Labs, and calmer.

1st generation Labbes: Labbes are a cross between a purebred Lab and a purebred Beagle. They mature mostly between 15 and 17 inches tall, and 30 to 50 pounds. Labbes are known to make fantastic little hunting dogs, having the scent of the hound, and the obedience of the Lab. They are also very loving and sweet! They are a bit energetic, but not hyper. They do love to fetch and love water! Very low shedding! We at Dakota Winds use smaller Labs to begin with! Our 1st generation Labbes are mostly yellow and fox red colored.
Perfect choice for anyone wanting a fun dog, and loves Labs, but wants a much smaller dog!

Purebred Lab X Purebred Beagle
Mini Labs: Mini Labs are bred from a Purebred Lab mom, and Puggle sire. (Pug/Beagle cross). This makes a smaller Mini Lab, that highly resembles a Miniature Lab, having shorter, more Lab like ears, squarer, blockier heads, and a wider muzzle. Extremily cute! Our Mini Labs mature mostly from 14 to 15 inches tall, and 25 to 35 pounds, with males usually being a little larger then females. Mini Labs are very outgoing and love attention! They can be a bit rambuncious as puppies, but mature to be calmer, nice dogs! Our Mini Labs come in Black & Chocolate colors.

2nd Generation Labbes: Our 2nd generation Labbes are actually a cross between a Labbe & a Mini Lab. So, they are 1/2 Lab, 1/4th Pug, and 3/8th Beagle. They usually mature smaller then their parents, because they have a smaller mother. However, there are exceptions, when one or two pups in a litter will mature about the same size as the parents. Most mature from 12 to 14 inches tall, but a few will mature up to about 16 inches. They come in a variety of colors from black, black & tan, fawn, red, and chocolate. They are very sweet, easy to train, loving little dogs!

Comfort Labbes: We have plans to breed Comfort Labbes in the near future! They are a cross between a Comfort Lab and a Labbe. Mostly maturing from 16 to 17 inches tall, and weighing in the 40 pound range. Colors will mostly be cream, yellow, fox red, and chocolate. We expect these to be calmer, very adorable puppies!

Toy Labbes: We have plans to breed Toy Labbes in the near future! They are a cross between a Labbe and a Puggle. Mostly maturing from 11 to 13 inches tall, and weighing in the 20 pound range. Colors will mostly be black & chocolate, some with tan markings. Spotted pups are possible. They will actually be 1/2 Beagle, 1/4th Lab, and 1/4th Pug. We expect them to look like tiny Labs, with the square heads! We expect them to be outgoing, playful, smart, easy to train, and a lot of fun, especially loving water!

Comfort Labs are $500 each. (Regardless of gender or color).
All others are:
Fawns are $300 each
Black & Tans are $400 each.
Blacks are $500 each.
Yellows are $700 each.
Fox Reds $800 each.
Creams and Whites are $800 each.
Chocolates are $800 each.
Spotted are $900 each.
(White markings, including on the face, paws, chest, feet, and tip of the tail are not counted as spotted, and will be priced according to the main color.)
